This zapper is to be used inside only and please make sure to keep it away from children. The zapper emits a 365nm wave of light to attract the bugs. So when they get close it zaps it. One thing i really love about this zapper is there is no chemicals or odors. It has a metal grate so it protects you from getting shocked. Another amazing feature about this zapper is it has a removable tray. So cleaning it is a lot easier. You can sit this zapper on the table without it falling over or you can hang it up by the metal chain. This bug zapper is measured at 12" x 16" x 3'. It doesn't take up much space at all. I hung mine up by the chain so that it could get the fly's since they like to always go in my kitchen near the sliding glass door. When you plug it in it is rather silent which i like. But one thing i will tell you when a bug makes contact with this it makes a loud pop noise. First night we had it up we forgot about it and all of a sudden pop pop scared me half to death.
